CWCF Caravan

The CWCF Caravan

Caravan is up and running

We looked at many sites and started saving but on the recommendation of some friends we ended up in Ore, just the other side of Hastings.

There were some fantastic caravans for sale but they were out of our price range! That was until Dave Bell of the Willingdon Golf Club contacted us and told us that his captain's day money was coming our way. What a day it was!  People were paying to play golf, buying raffle tickets and when it came to the auction in the evening some amazing things were up for grabs like tea at the House of Commons, signed cricket bats from the Sussex team, various football shirts that were signed by the players and there was even a wheelbarrow full of alcoholic drink.

A short time after the event Mr Bell rang us to say the day had been a great success and he would like to present us with a cheque for 10,000.  “PARDON?!”, was my reply, but I instantly knew what the money would be spent on and, with the money we had already saved towards a caravan, their money made it possible.

It was sited in April of this year, we showed it to the nurses and since then it has been full with families taking a break, but with the knowledge of the Conquest Hospital oncology team being just down the road if they need them.

Currently 10 families have had a holiday that they would not have had if it were not for your support.  St Mary’s Social Club of Hastings raised 2,000 for us which will help to pay for next year’s ground rent.  We are lucky because that was something we knew that we had to try and raise.

We are also going to rent out the caravan, mainly out of season, as obviously our cancer families get first choice.  If you would like a short break or a weeks holiday please ring us, this will help us pay for the gas etc.

I must finish by saying that the other 10,000 it took to buy the caravan was donated by LOTS of YOU, whether it was 2 or 200.  If we had no families to grant wishes to at that moment then your money was put into the savings for this sort of thing, so thank you.
