O's family was referred to Children with Cancer Fund in December 2023. Here is their story:
O was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2023 (aged 23 months) after his parents noticed that he wasn't using his right arm/hand properly and he had a weakness down his entire right side. Although a biopsy revealed that the tumour is benign (low grade glioma) the size and location of the tumour meant that it was causing serious issues and further surgery was necessary. After a 10-hour operation at King's College Hospital in November 2023 to deal with a blocked ventricle and remove a small section of the tumour (the majority of the tumour is inoperable due to it's location), O's family were devastated to learn a few months' later that the tumour had regrown. They decided to join a clinical trial at the Royal Marsden comparing conventional chemotherapy against a new, more targeted form of chemotherapy. Despite a few ups and downs, O is overall doing brilliantly on the treatment, and the tumour has significantly shrunk. O's mobility is going from strength to strength, and he is currently a very happy, energetic, cheeky three-year-old.
